Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will be busy in his eighth NHL All-Star appearance and first in four years, as he'll participate in two events at the NHL All-Star Skills on Friday and represent the Metropolitan Division in the 3-on-3 tournament on Saturday.

Ovechkin will participate in the Breakaway Challenge and Hardest Shot competition on Friday.

For the Breakaway Challenge, Ovechkin is teaming up with an unlikely partner in rival and Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. Ovechkin won the Breakaway Challenge three times in 2008, 2009 and 2011. In addition to Ovechkin and Crosby, Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak, Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner are participating in the challenge. Roberto Luongo will be the celebrity goaltender.

Ovechkin will participate in the Hardest Shot as well, the competition he has become famous for thanks to his goal-scoring prowess and rocket of a shot from his "Office." He won the challenge in 2018 with a 101.3 MPH shot. Teammate John Carlson won in 2019, and Tom Wilson participated in the challenge last year and passed the century mark as well.

The 37-year-old, who passed Gordie Howe as the second-leading goal scorer of all time and has 32 goals this season, will compete against Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones, Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey and Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson.
