WASHINGTON — Washington Capitals defenseman Alex Alexeyev has exited Friday’s tilt with the Seattle Kraken with an upper-body injury.

Alexeyev was skating in the offensive zone when he took an elbow to the head from Jamie Oleksiak. The Russian stayed down and was bleeding from the face, and after trainers attended to him and helped him off, he went down the tunnel.

Oleksiak was assessed a match penalty for an illegal check to the head. Washington got a five-minute power play. Alexeyev will not return to Fridayโ€™s game and is listed as having an upper-body injury.

Meanwhile, the Capitals are already missing two other defensemen in Martin Fehervary (upper-body injury) and Dmitry Orlov (lower-body injury).
