Report: Capitals ‘Closing In’ On Spencer Carbery For Head Coach

After a month and a half without a head coach, it appears the Washington Capitals have their man.

The team is “closing in” on Spencer Carbery, a Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach, as the new head coach in Washington, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Carbery, 41, has spent two seasons behind the bench in Toronto. Since his hire in 2021, the team’s power play has become one of the league’s best in that span.

From 2018-21, Carbery helmed the Hershey Bears — the Capitals’ AHL affiliate — and led the team to a 104-50-17 record.
