Hockey Now Headlines: Metropolitan Previews, Dahlin, Swayman

The Washington Capitals have played four preseason games so far. They have two remaining, with their next matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at 7:00 p.m. in Nationwide Arena. The Capitals start their 50th Anniversary campaign on Saturday, October 12, against the New Jersey Devils at Capital One Arena. The month of September is almost over. The regular season is within reach. With all of that being said, here are the Hockey Now Headlines for September 30.



Hockey Now Headlines: Washington Capitals Division Previews

Washington Hockey Now: Both the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins are trying a little bit longer with their stars to see whether they can win one more championship before the time is up. Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin will not be playing in the league too much longer.

Washington Hockey Now: The New York Rangers finished the last regular season at the top of the mountain, claiming the Presidentโ€™s Trophy for the most points accumulated in the league with 114. What should the Washington Capitals and their fans expect from the Rangers come 2024-25?

Washington Hockey Now: The Capitals kick off the 2024-25 season against the New Jersey Devils on October 12. Last seasonโ€™s Devils squad declined from their success during the 2022-23 campaign. They will be looking to bounce back from the 2023-24 seasonโ€™s calamity.

Washington Hockey Now: The New York Islanders finished third in the Metropolitan Division during the 2023-24 season, right above Washington with three more points in the standings. What kind of threat do they pose for the Capitals in 2024-25?

Washington Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers are a team in transition. They have been drafting significant talent to start a new era for the franchise. How will they pose a threat for the Washington Capitals in 2024-25?

Washington Hockey Now: The Carolina Hurricanes finished the 2023-24 season with a record of 52-23-7. They were ranked second in the Metropolitan Division and in the Eastern Conference with 111 points. However, this team lost a lot over the 2024 offseason.

Washington Hockey Now: The Columbus Blue Jackets are looking to bounce back after finishing last in the Metropolitan Division in 2023-24.

Around the Hockey World

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins faced travel issues, resulting in their preseason game with the Detroit Red Wings postponed to Monday.

Boston Hockey Now: Goalie Jeremy Swayman is among the favorites to win the 2024-25 Vezina Trophy for best netminder in the NHL. This all comes despite the fact that he and the Boston Bruins have not come to terms on a contract extension yet.

Buffalo Hockey Now: The Buffalo Sabres defeated EHC Red Bull Mรผnchen by a final score of 5-0. There were a few takeaways from the club’s victory.

Buffalo Hockey Now: The Sabres also named defenseman Rasmus Dahlin their next captain.

Sportsnet: Prospect Brayden Yager, who was part of the deal that sent Rutger McGroarty to the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been a nice addition for the Winnipeg Jets so far.

TSN: The Montreal Canadiens lost both Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher to injuries in a preseason matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
