Hockey Now Headlines: Caps & TikTok, Utah Jerseys, PWHL

With Week 1 of the NFL season almost completely in the rearview mirror, it is a crucial sign that hockey season is right around the corner. The Washington Capitals have their rookie camp starting this Friday, September 13. It runs until September 16. Then, the Capitals will hold Media Day on September 19, starting their training camp for the 2024-25 season. Then, Washington will have their first preseason game on Sunday, September 22, at 3:00 P.M. versus the Philadelphia Flyers. With all that being covered, here are some other hockey headlines as of September 9.



Hockey Now Headlines: Washington Capitals

Washington Hockey Now: The Washington Capitals announced that Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) is partnering with the video-sharing platform app TikTok. The Capitals will wear the TikTok logo as their away sponsorship patch. TikTok will also present the Capitals’ 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Washington Hockey Now: The Capitals also have at least four players who could hit career-highs in at least one category during the 2024-25 season.

NHL.com: Washington Capitals Hockey Hall of Fame forward Mike Gartner will take over for Lanny McDonald as the Hockey Hall of Fame’s chairman.

Washington Hockey Now: One training camp battle is between the pipes. Charlie Lindgren has the chance to try to win the Capitals’ starting goalie job. He will have competition with recently acquired netminder Logan Thompson. It will be intriguing to see who stands out between the two in training camp and the preseason. Once the regular season starts, Spencer Carbery and his staff must figure out how they want to approach the goalie situation.

Washington Hockey Now: Lastly, here is a potential look at what the Washington Capitals’ forward lines could look like to start this upcoming campaign.

Utah Hockey Club on Twitter/X: The Utah Hockey Club released a video promoting its first-ever jerseys ahead of its debut season in Salt Lake City. The video includes the team’s inaugural patch.

Boston Hockey Now: The PWHL announced the names, logos, colors, and more of its six franchises, including the Boston Fleet.

New Jersey Hockey Now: Newly acquired New Jersey Devils defenseman Brett Pesce threw out the first pitch, along with the New York Rangers’ Adam Fox and the New York Islanders’ Anders Lee. This was at the New York Mets game on Saturday.

NHL.com: The top 16 NHL coaches have been ranked on the site, ahead of the 2024-25 season. The final rankings were based on votes among NHL.com writers.

San Jose Hockey Now: Returning San Jose Sharks forward Barclay Goodrow started skating for his old team again.

Ottawa Hockey Now: The Ottawa Senators were active with PTOs. They bring in both Nikolay Kulemin and Calen Addison.

Montreal Hockey Now: Montreal Canadiens’ 2024 prospect Ivan Demidov has played well in his first few games in the KHL with SKA Saint Petersburg.
