The hits didn’t stop coming Thursday night for the Hershey Bears.

Five days off before the start of the series did little to prepare the Bears, who came out on the wrong end of a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of the Coachella Valley Firebirds in Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals.

The Firebirds — the AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken — made it on the board first with a first-period goal from forward Tye Kartye. They would add another goal in the second period off the stick of Ville Petman, forcing the Bears into a deeper hole.

Despite tallying 16 shots on goal through the game’s first two periods, Hershey could not beat Coachella Valley goalie Joey Daccord.

In the third period, the Firebirds added three insurance goals en route to the opening-game win.
